French telephone service is more costly than American phone service; therefore most individual apartments are not pre-equipped with phone service. Students in homestays will need to make arrangements regarding telephone access with their host families.

Most students elect to purchase cellular phones “sans abonnement”, or without a contract. Cell phone companies offer pre-paid calling cards that are available at a variety of locations around the city. The cards can be purchased in different amounts or units. Cell phones can receive calls for free, but making calls is costly.
